Faithful Heart Foundation (FHF) was started by David and Shirley Callahan, a Christian couple who have worked to help orphan children and disadvantaged hill tribe people of Northern Thailand since 2001. Beginning in 2004, they sold or gave away their belongings and left South Carolina, USA to live and serve full-time as missionaries in Thailand. They are commissioned by their home Church, but not funded or sponsored by a denominational sending agency. Their Christian compassion ministry is focused on rescuing orphan children and helping the poor & disadvantaged hill tribe people of Thailand.
Faithful Heart Foundation of Thailand was established in 2008, and has been able to raise funds through individual donations and provide management/oversight to establish several small orphan homes in Thailand. We pray additional sponsors can be enlisted to open more family-style orphan shelters in the near future. Faithful Heart also provides ministry resources and emergency assistance to the poor who are least able to help themselves.
The mountains of Northern Thailand are dotted with small villages of people who emigrated from neighboring countries like Myanmar (formerly Burma), Laos, China, and Cambodia. Most of these people entered Thailand to escape oppressive governments. Though they entered Thailand illegally, the Thai government offered amnesty, but most villagers have never been given the full rights of Thai citizenship. Because they are not native Thai, villagers often face prejudice and discrimination in employment, education, healthcare, and housing. For tribal people, poverty and despair create feelings of hopelessness. Drug use, alcoholism, and violent crime are destroying family life. Child abuse and physical neglect are commonplace. Children in these villages are often orphaned or abandoned. Extreme poverty keeps most hilltribe children from public schools. We believe Faithful Heart ministry can help break the cycle of poverty by providing orphans with a loving Christian family environment, to ensure they have adequate food & nutrition, and access to a quality education.
Dave and Shirley Callahan have dedicated their energy and resources to this ministry. They took “early retirement” from business and heath care careers to dedicate their lives to Christian ministry in Thailand. Their modest retirement income provides much of their living expenses. However, the Faithful Heart Foundation ministry depends completely on the generosity of individual donors & sponsors to provide funding for the orphans and hilltribe ministries.
All of the money donated for Faithful Heart Foundation is used for ministry expenses; there are no management fees or administration salaries deducted from donations.
Faithful Heart Foundation will serve the poor and disadvan-taged native people, in and around Northern Thailand, whose life circumstances can be improved through: Financial aid, Family care, Education, Training, Counseling, and support services. We will strive to match our foundation resources with the greatest needs to have a lasting positive impact on as many lives as possible.
Statement of Faith
It is a way of telling people what we believe about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the Bible, and so forth. This is important, because there are many strange religions and cults masquerading as Christian today. Our statement of faith should indicate that we are truly Christian and do not support or promote doctrines or beliefs that are not part of historic, mainstream Christian faith.
Faithful Heart Foundation ministry is motivated by God’s love and based on the Bible alone. We believe the Bible is God’s “word” written by men, under the inspiration of His Holy Spirit. It is the infallible, complete, final, and only authority in all matters of faith and conduct. ( 2 Timothy 3:16,17; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; and 2 Peter 1:20,21.)
We believe God the Father is perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, and measureless in power. God showed His love for all people by sending His Son to die for our sins so that we might have eternal life with God in heaven. (John 3:16,17; Romans 11:33; 1 Peter 1:16; 1 John 4:7-10; Revelation 4:8.)
We believe Jesus Christ is God Himself. He became completely man and was born of a virgin by the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus lived a sinless life, and chose to die on the cross as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people. He was bodily resurrected, and now sits at the “right hand of God”, interceding for all people who accept him as Savior and Lord. Some day soon, He will come in glory to judge all people based on their acceptance or rejection of Him. Jesus is the only way to bridge the gap of sin between God and man. (Matthew 16:16,17 ; Luke 1:34,35 ; John 1:1 and 1:14 and 5:22-24 ; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8; 1 Peter 2:22-24.)
We believe the Holy Spirit convicts the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment. He is received in full when someone accepts Jesus as Lord and Savior. He is the indwelling power who enables Christians to live a Christ-like life. (John 16:8,12,13; Acts 2:38; Romans 8:9; Galatians 5:16-26; 1 John 3:24.)
We believe that mankind was created in the image of God, but chose to disobey God in the Garden of Eden. As a result of sin, sorrow, pain, sickness, and death came into existence. All people who have lived since Adam have also sinned. The penalty for sin is death. Only by accepting Jesus as Savior and making Him Lord of your life can you spend eternity with God in heaven. Those who reject or ignore Jesus will receive God’s wrath for their sins and suffer eternally in Hell. (Genesis 1:26,27; Matthew 25:31-46; Romans 3:23 and 6:23; 2 Thessalonians 1:5-10; Revelation 20:11-15)
3 Primary Objectives
These objective were established in accordance with the Thailand Government rules.
- Education Assistance Project We will assist native poor, orphaned, or disadvantaged children who cannot afford the cost of public education in Thailand. Our assistance could include sponsorship for school books & supplies, school or dorm tuition fees, uniforms, etc. The goal is to ensure poor children have the education needed to improve their prospects for a secure and productive life.
- Winter Blankets and Clothes Project Each year we accept special donations which are used to purchase local, hand made, fleece blankets, plus sweaters and sweat pants in various children’s sizes. We then donate these to pastors and missionaries who work in the poor hill tribe villages. The blankets & clothes are given as “free gifts” to open doors of trust, making it easier to share the Gospel.
- Emergency Assistance Project We will identify urgent-critical needs among native people and seek ways and means to offer assistance for individuals, families, or communities in Northern Thailand. Urgent-critical needs could include things such as food, safe housing, health & medical care, etc.
