Dear Martyn Jones:

Bravo, bravo again, and BRAVO!!!!!!! You are so right. I have lived in Bangkok for the past 13 years, and have never once felt the threat of violent crime being perpetrated against me. Thai people are overwhelmingly peaceful and tolerant. I jokingly consider my Thai wife a born-again Buddhist, as she is very serious about her Buddhism. But although she is very fervent in her beliefs, she DOES NOT go around trying to convert me, trying to make me become a born again Buddhist, so that I too may experience nirvana in the next life. I find this unobtrusive quality most refreshing and strikingly absent from other religious faiths.

Hello - lovely photos!!
I come from a strong Christian family and consider myself a good Christian person. Having travelled widely in the last 15 years in South-East asia as well as "Christian" tropical countries in South America and the Caribbean - I have these following observations to make:- In almost all of the "Christian" countries I was advised not to venture out after dark - I did a few times and regreted it - I wasn't mugged but it was a bit scarey! Muslim nations I found ok - a little drab and depressed (modern day communism?) with a few bad encounters, but all the Buddhist countries I've travelled in were absolutely fantastic - ok, it's not a religion but a philosophy, but it seems to produce a kindness and calmness that we can't reproduce in the mainstream life of western society - What's happening? what's going wrong with our society........?
It seems to me that we need to put our own house in order before we disrupt and confuse another system that seems to me to be working very well. Please come home and sort out the mess in the western world - there's nothing wrong with Buddhism! But there's a hell lot wrong with our family!

Hi Dave & Shirley!

My name is Dennis from Singapore and im 21 this year. I was fortunate to be given an opportunity to visit one of the Christian hostel when i went for community work together with my school (Woodlands Ring Sec Sch) as a student mentor in maechaem back in 2008. Since then, ive been thinking about ways i can render my help to the children and the home but isnt sure how i can help out..

As im still schooling, im unable to help out financially but i was wondering if i could go over and offer some of my services to the children there. Im an engineering major undergraduate currently in Singapore's Nanyang Technological University. I can play the guitar and also taking drums lessons. No problem in teaching subjects and english as well.

My hols are in May till mid Aug. Please contact me @ purplecommando@hotmail.com if i can help in anyway. Thank you!

God Bless,
Dennis
