Trip to Phrae Aug-16, 2009
August 16th, 2009Hello Dear friends,
As I mentioned in our last email, we took a long drive up to the small town of Phrae this week. We go there to buy hand-made blankets and children’s clothes. The work is not done in a factory setting or workshop. Instead, there is a village where ladies do the sewing in their homes and one lady acts as their sales manager. We met with her and ordered 500 large fleece blankets and 750 sets of children’s clothes (flannel sweatshirt & pants). The ladies will do the work and the finished products will be delivered to us here in Chiang Mai by early November.
the Christmas & New Year holidays, we will enlist lots of missionaries to help us distribute these free gifts to the poor and needy hill tribe villagers.
Pray with us that, in the mountains this winter, each blanket and set of clothes will demonstrate God’s great love and free-gift of Salvation grace.
Tomorrow we plan to drive over the mountains to Mae Chaem and check on the Christian Hostel with 26 hill tribe children living there.
Pray that we have safe travel and a fruitful visit.
Grace & Peace to you,
Dave & Shirley Callahan
Outside a tiny shop along the highway near Phrae, Shirley and our Thai friends negotiate with the older lady
who will have the village women sew our blankets & clothes. It was about 90 degrees with stifling humidity.
The little shop isn’t much to look at. Inside there are piles of fabric scraps and some finished blankets.
If you hear us talk about visiting “the blanket factory” , don’t be too impressed…this is the place.
On the long drive back to Chiang Mai, Shirley and our social-work volunteer, Mint, had to share most of their space
With a load of 100 blankets that were finished and ready for us to take with us. God has blessed us with good friends.
We got back to Chiang Mai just before sunset and stopped along this busy street to share dinner and give thanks
To God for a safe trip and for all those generous people who help us buy and donate the winter blankets & clothes.
