Rice and Flu: Aug 3, 2009
August 3rd, 2009Hello friends,
This week we’ve had a lot of rain and very hot-humid days. The weather has been good for the rice crop our families are growing. The Children help ensure a good crop by walking through the rice paddy and collecting the land-crabs and snails that attack the rice plants. Our house parents offer to pay the children something for every bucket of crabs they collect, so the kids are eager to help. Our children had several extra days with no classes because the government approved schools to close for a few days in an attempt to stem the spread of swine-flu in Thailand.
Pray all of our orphans and caregivers stay healthy and avoid the flu.
Pray that God will continue to bless our rice-crop as it grows.
Pray that our children will be drawn into saving faith as they are taught the Truth of the Bible in their homes.
Grace and Peace to you,
Dave Shirley Callahan
This evening photo is a bit grainy, but you can see the green rice sprouts that are almost ready to re-plant in rows.

Nathan and Samuel sort the land-crabs they’ve collected in the rice-paddy. The crabs will be cooked & eaten.
At Home of Comfort, Nathan has learned to give the other boys haircuts…he enjoys the chore.
At home of Grace, the boys were praying thanks before cutting a birthday cake for Mark, at the left in this photo.

I love to see our little guys smile and play…they’ve already had enough pain and heartbreak in their lives.
