Callahan Corner for May 17, 2015

If you’ve been following our weekly reports, you may have already noticed that many of our photos include food and folks eating. There’s just something about eating together that adds to the joy of fellowship…can’t explain that, but it’s true. So this week, as the banner says, “Let’s Eat!”

Here Shirley, and some of the workers who helped during our staff retreat, are about to enjoy a HOT LUNCH…the food was warm, and the day was HOT. “”Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people ….” (Neh 8:10)

This photo shows the Home of Promise girls enjoying an after-school meal with our bookkeeper, Kuhn Tae, in our outdoor kitchen. “‘(Peter replied) Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.’ He said to him, ‘Feed my lambs.’” (Genesis 28:3)

Here Shirley and I are having a rice & fish lunch with some visitors, staff, and volunteers. We’d just finished a walking tour of our rice-mill and dorm construction site, so this was a welcome treat. “…we gathered together for the fellowship meal.” (Acts 20:7)

The older boys, from Home of Comfort, gather to sit on the tile floor and have their evening meal. These are the boys who’ll move into the new dorm. “The poor will eat as much as they want; those who come to the LORD will praise him. May they prosper forever!” (Psalm 22:26)

At lunchtime the other day, I snapped this photo of (L-R): Lou-one, our housekeeper, sitting in the shade with Gawley and Tiida. Our “outdoor kitchen” is covered to form a breezeway, open at both ends. “You satisfy j me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy.” (Psalm 63:5)

Now, I wish I could say that this type of healthy food choice is what we always eat….I’d be proud to say that…if only it were true! “I have provided all kinds of grain and all kinds of fruit for you to eat;” (Gen 1:29)

Boy, I love this close-up picture of a special desert we had at a local restaurant (celebrating Gawley’s birthday). It’s toasted butter-bread, covered with honey, dusted with sugar, and served with ice-cream. WARNING: You may gain weight by simply looking at this too closely! “A donkey is content when eating grass, and a cow is quiet when eating hay… I have no appetite for food like that,” (Job 6:5-7)

Please pray for: Our dedication worship service for the boys dorm is planned for this Friday evening; pray that our thanksgiving will be sincere. Also, pray in thanksgiving for God’s protection—We were able to corner & kill a deadly cobra snake that we found near our front porch! God is our safe shelter! “Whoever goes to the LORD for safety, whoever remains under the protection of the Almighty, can say to him, “You are my defender and protector. You are my God; in you I trust.” (Psalm 91:1-2)
